The past years have seen various rigorous training schedules, at LA Fitness in Warwick, including, weight training (power and stamina orientated) cross country running - distances between 6 - 10 miles, cardiovascular training, pad work (increasing hand/eye coordination, speed and power), sparring, and body conditioning. During September 2001, Tony is undertook a two-week training trip on the island of Tenerife in order to attain a higher level of fitness through high-altitude training in addition to training with a new British-run Thai Boxing Club based in Playa de Las Americas, Tenerife. Tony has been training since the age of 12 years old. The first six years of his career were within a boxing environment, moving to Thai Boxing at the age of 18 in order to learn the Martial Art.
To date Tony has taken part in a total of 52 fights. With 48 wins, and only four losses (33 of his wins by way of knockout and two by "technical knock out" where the fight is declared over by the referee). Tony has also developed the "BEAT THE BULLY" campaign aimed at all local schools and colleges; the idea is to be able to deliver talks to students and teachers alike, to enable them combat bullies in a non-physical form and how to avoid becoming a victim. Officially the campaign will start in the New Year of 2002, Tony hopes to be able to gain the support of the local authorities to aid him in this quest. Tony has been developing this program for the past year and is confident it will become a great success.
Tony Hayes is also the founder and president of the newly formed Warwickshire Muay Thai Boxing Association, this was formed in order license only qualified Muay Thai Boxing and Kickboxing Instructors within the Warwickshire area to prevent unlicensed instructors coaching either of these Arts. Tony has the backing of all major Thai Boxing Associations and is fully recognised as an instructor/coach all over the United Kingdom. Tony Hayes has retired from active competition and is now going to concentrate on promoting Muay Thai Boxing and the Beat The Bully campaign whilst continuing to coach current and new students at his full time club based at LA FITNESS in Warwick.
